Domains & DNS
Connecting your .com or .com.au to our servers.
Domains & DNS
This is the only part of the process that can get a little technical. If you get stuck, just ask us in the chat and we can help you out.
What is DNS?
DNS is the phonebook of the internet. It tells people's computers where to find your website when they type in your name.
- A Record: Points your name (like
example.com) to a server IP address (like123.45.67.89). - CNAME Record: Points one name to another (like
www.example.comtoexample.com).
Pointing your domain to us
To make your site live, you need to log in to where you bought your domain (GoDaddy, CrazyDomains, Namecheap, etc.) and change these records.
1. The Root Domain (example.com)
Create an A Record with:
- Host/Name:
@(or leave blank) - Value/Points to: The IP address shown in your dashboard under "Domains".
2. The WWW (www.example.com)
Create a CNAME Record with:
- Host/Name:
www - Value/Points to:
@(orexample.com)
Wait for it...
DNS changes can take anywhere from a few minutes to 24 hours to spread across the world. If it doesn't work instantly, give it a cup of tea's worth of time.
Status Lights
In your dashboard, you'll see a status for your DNS:
- Valid (Green): All good. Your site should be working.
- Recommended (Yellow): It works, but maybe you missed the
wwwpart. It's fine, but could be better (this may cause issues with some browsers). - Invalid (Red): It's not pointing to us yet.
- Unchecked (Grey): We haven't looked yet.
